CINETIC FLEX contiene pentosan polisulfato sódico (PPS), el cual es un disacárido polisulfatado obtenido de polímeros lineales de xilosas semisintéticas, y es considerado un fármaco modificador de las condiciones patológicas de osteoartritis (DMOAD).

El PPS cubre las necesidades terapéuticas de osteoartritis al poseer otros atributos farmacológicos y no únicamente actividad antiinflamatoria, es decir, evita que la enfermedad continúe su curso natural, rompiendo así el círculo vicioso de la fisiopatología de la osteoartritis. Mantiene el anabolismo del condrocito y favorece la síntesis de su matriz extracelular, preservando la integridad del cartílago, a diferencia de los corticosteroides y los AINE’s que, a pesar de tener un potente efecto analgésico y antiinflamatorio, su uso inadecuado e indiscriminado acelera la destrucción de la articulación al inhibir los procesos anabólicos celulares, además de producir efectos adversos gastrointestinales, hepáticos, renales y otros que se detectan a largo plazo en la regeneración ósea, cartílago, ligamento, tendón, inserciones tendinomusculares y funciones cardiovasculares.
